Bloomberg TV
Bloomberg TV, also known as Bloomberg, is a business and financial markets pay television network based in the United States. It is owned by Bloomberg L.P. and is available in over 310 million homes worldwide. The network is headquartered in New York City, with additional European and Asian headquarters in London and Hong Kong, respectively.
Bloomberg Television was first introduced in the United States in mid-1994 as Bloomberg Direct and was initially available on DirecTV, a new satellite television service at the time. Within a year, it was renamed Bloomberg Information TV before being shortened to its current name in 1998. The network took over the channel space previously occupied by the Financial News Network and hired most of its former staff.
From 1995 to 1997, the now-defunct American Independent Network broadcast a Bloomberg simulcast at various times each day, which was picked up by several broadcast stations in early morning periods to offer a de facto morning business show. The network’s morning pre-opening bell programming was also simulcast on the USA Network from 1995 to 2004, until the channel dropped the simulcast months before the NBCUniversal merger was completed.
