Bloomberg TV

Bloomberg TV

Bloomberg Television (abbreviated as Bloomberg) is a pay television network based in the United States that focuses on business and financial markets. It is owned by Bloomberg L.P. It is available in over 310 million homes all over the world. It is headquartered in New York City, with European and Asian headquarters in London and Hong Kong, respectively.

Bloomberg Television debuted in the United States in mid-1994 as Bloomberg Direct, and was initially shown on DirecTV, a new satellite television service at the time.

[5] It was renamed Bloomberg Information TV within a year, before being truncated to its current moniker in 1998. The network has taken over the previous Financial News Network’s channel space and has hired the majority of the former FNN staff. From 1995 to 1997, the now-defunct American Independent Network broadcasted a Bloomberg simulcast at various times each daily, which was taken up by several broadcast stations in early morning periods to offer a de facto morning business show. Starting on July 1, 1995, the network’s morning pre-opening bell programming (from 5:30 AM to 7 AM) was simulcast on the USA Network in a paid programming arrangement until 2004, when the channel dropped the simulcast months before the NBCUniversal merger was completed, citing concerns that USA would then air the coverage of a competitor to future sister network CNBC. [6] The simulcast then moved to E! (which became NBCUniversal-owned and a sister network of CNBC in January 2011 as a result of Comcast’s purchase of that company), where it remained until the simulcast ended in January 2009, when the network’s reach on digital cable systems had grown to the point where it was no longer necessary. According to Nielsen Media Research, the 5–8 a.m. block on E! was the network’s most watched period during its run.

In January 2009, Bloomberg Television’s US network unveiled a new graphics package. This current scheme debuted on the network’s now-defunct pre-market program, Starting Bell, before being rolled out to all of the network’s shows on February 17, 2009. Bloomberg U.S. also revised its weekday programming lineup on that date.
