MTV YO

MTV YO

MTV YO Raps was a two-hour music video program that aired on MTV Europe from 1987 to the mid-90s and on MTV US from August 1988 to August 1995. The American version (produced by Ted Demme and Peter Dougherty) was the network’s first hip hop music show, and it was based on the original MTV Europe show, which debuted a year before the American version. Yo! MTV Raps aired a combination of rap videos, celebrity interviews, live in-studio performances (on Fridays), and humor. From 1990 through 2005, MTV Brasil broadcasted a Brazilian version of the show called Yo! MTV.

Fab 5 Freddy hosted the first episode in the United States. On weekdays, the show’s main hosts were Doctor Dré and Demme’s high school classmate, Ed Lover, who hosted together. T Money, a member of Doctor Dre’s Original Concept group, soon joined them. [1] Freddy from the Fab 5 went on to host on weekends. On August 6, 1988, MTV broadcasted the first episode of the show, which included simply Fab as the host.

Ed Lover devised his own dance called the Ed Lover Dance (which was normally shown on Wednesdays) that became fairly popular in the 1990s on the weekday version titled Yo! MTV Raps Today (which began on March 13, 1989). The Ed Lover Dance was done to The 45 King’s “The 900 Number.”
