Radio Cambodge was established in 1946 in Phnom Penh, which was then a part of French Indochina (formerly known as the French protectorate of Cambodia), utilizing Japanese equipment. After independence, it was renamed Radio Diffusion Nationale Khmère (National Khmer Radio) (RNK). Television test transmissions began in 1961, and official broadcasts began on February 2, 1966. Following that, the station was known as the Voice/TV Station of the National United Front of Cambodia (1975) and the Voice of the Kampuchean People (1976). (VOKP, 1979). The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) was established in 1983. In 1994, state television and radio were consolidated under the Ministry of Information and divided into distinct companies to better serve the public.
